Inflow Goes Down
ICG Link suffered our first major outage since hosting at Inflow's Nashville data center. The entire Inflow data center went down yesterday (Sunday) due to a fire in an electrical substation in the basement of 211 Commerce Street. The data center as well as all ICG Link services remained on-line as power was lost due to the fire. The seventh floor data center was totally isolated from the building with the generator running as the event unfolded. However, the Nashville Fire Department would not allow continued operation during the event despite the fact that Inflow engineers demonstrated that there was no risk to firefighters. As a result, the generator was shut down and our servers lost power once UPS backup was exhausted.
Interestingly, all ICG Link employees were celebrating our 10th anniversary at the time on Center Hill Lake and were unable to get to the data center to restore services. Fortunately, a former ICG Link systems engineer was available to cover our sorry tails and restored our services as soon as the Fire Department allowed restoration of power and return access to the building. We offer a shout out to Scott H. for bailing us out!
